Race Information
💡 Concept
5 miles, 4 pints, 4 snacks - lots of fun.
🍻 Menu
It is up to you if you finish your drinks and snacks – you will only be cheating yourself if you don’t. You can see what will be served up via the links below, or keep it a secret from yourself for an extra bit of mystery. And NEW for this year – introducing: milkathon, for those that need a more brutal non-alcoholic, non-dairy cop out:
🏃♀️ Route
You'll be running 5 x 1 mile laps and there will be some Beerathon-themed markings on the route to guide you. Each lap starts by going out of the back door of the pub, and each lap ends by coming in the front door. From the front door, proceed in a straight line directly to the back of the pub/beer garden where your drink and snack will be waiting for you. Please be courteous to other pub punters and negotiate the pub floorplan as you would on a casual Sunday and not at blistering race pace speed.
📋 Rules
Any infringements will result in drinking penalties, ritual shaming, and a lifetime ban from Chelmsford Beerathon’s bright future.
- Vomit bags will be supplied and must be carried at all times. Vomiting outside of vomit bags will not be tolerated. There are a few bins on the route for disposal.
- Take responsibility for your personal safety and the safety of others as you encounter road crossings and shared pedestrian/cycle paths. Give way to others who may not yet be aware of the phenomenon that is Beerathon.
- No headphones allowed.
- We are a dog-friendly event so dogs are very welcome to run with you but must remain on a short, handheld lead at all times, including while in the pub. No extendable leads and no running belt/harness lead attachments.
✅ Check In
Check-in will be open from 12:15 and will be inside The Queen's Head. When you arrive, make yourself known to one of the officials (they'll be easily identifiable and the pub isn't big). Have your confirmation email ready so they can scan your QR code. They'll then give you your race number, which you'll fix to your top with safety pins. And that's it - you're race ready!
🚘 Travel
The pub is a 10-minute walk from Chelmsford railway and bus stations. It also has its own free car park which you can enter from Baker Street. Baker Street is one way so you will need to turn down it from Lower Anchor Street, not up from New Writtle Street.
👜 Bag drop
There are no secure bag drop facilities at the pub and your property remains your responsibility at all times, so either carry your valuables with you or leave them at home! There will be spectators at the pub who may be willing to keep half an eye on any non-valuables you need to leave tucked under a chair.
🤑 Payment
The cost of Beerathon for individual entrants is £40, which includes a donation to two awesome organisations: South Essex Wildlife Hospital and Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary.
Teams pay one £40 entry fee which covers the same 4 drinks, 4 snacks and charitable donations as previously described, plus a £20 fee for each additional entrant solely for the donations. This leaves additional runners at liberty to purchase their own drinks from the bar as they see fit. The minimum team size is 2 and the maximum is 5.
💜 Sundries
- Individual entrants will be provided with a finish time for the whole event. You will need to measure any fancy split times yourself. For those entering as a team, you fellas are on your own. Record as you wish.
- We may take the odd photograph to use for marketing future events. Your participation at the event implies your consent to having these photographs used to promote the awesomeness of Beerathon in the future.
